Agricultural Runoff

Click to enlarge As the agri-business becomes larger and more mechanized, the ability of the land to handle the huge quantities of waste generated by large animal operations is rapidly disappearing. It is not uncommon for thousands of hogs, cattle or other animals to be raised by one farmer. Simple land applications cannot withstand these volumes in the long run. Furthermore, any failure of existing wastewater lagoons can have devastating environmental impacts. For example, in North Carolina 100 million litres of raw hog sewage spilled directly into a river system when a lagoon wall collapsed in 1997.

The Kickuth BioReactor system can be used, often in retrofitting and augmenting existing holding ponds or lagoons. It offers an economical solution to a potential environmental nightmare while ensuring the continued viability of those operations that produce our food supply. Many systems have been built to treat farm runoff and agricultural waste streams. Two such systems are the Marutendorf, Germany system and the Year 200 World Expo System.
