Sewage Treatment Systems - Marystown, Newfoundland
In 1999 the town of Marystown, Newfoundland was actively looking for solutions for municipal sewage treatment. The costs of providing central collection systems, large gravity sewers and lift stations was seen as prohibitive and was considered as something that "will probably never happen". Town officials decided to use a decentralized sewage treatment solution for a part of the community.
During the fall of 2001 Abydoz constructed a 35 home Kickuth BioReactor Sewage Treatment System in the town. The province of Newfoundland and the town both see this as a very cost-effective, sustainable solution to sewage treatment issues throughout the Province of Newfoundland. The system has performed exceptionally well to date and both the town and the province are very happy with the reults.
The system is designed to treat the effluent from 35 residences. The full-scale system for this section of the town, when built, will be for 120 homes.
A photo of the completed system in 2001 is shown to the right. The system consists of two treatment beds approximately 320 square meters each at the surface.
Photos of the system (taken in August 2003) in its' fully landscaped condition are shown below. Click on these to enlarge them.
